Police are searching for the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision that injured a 15-year-old cyclist in southwest Edmonton on Monday afternoon.

The teen was riding his bicycle westbound on Desrochers Boulevard and crossing a marked crosswalk on Desrochers Drive SW at roughly 12:30 p.m. when a vehicle travelling southbound struck him at a high rate of speed. The vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign, hit the cyclist, and fled the scene, continuing southbound before turning west onto 41 Avenue SW.

The teen was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police describe the suspect vehicle as a light silver four-door sedan, possibly an older Volkswagen, with potential front-end damage.

"The complete disregard shown by the driver of this vehicle after striking this child is appalling," said Edmonton Police Service Staff Sgt. David Crisp. "I'm hoping that someone can contact police with information about this incident so we can hold the driver of this vehicle accountable."

Anyone who witnessed the collision, has information about the vehicle or driver, or has dashcam footage is asked to contact Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567.
