Senior killed crossing against light in southeast Edmonton hit-and-run

A 69-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle near 50 Street and 23 Avenue just after midnight Thursday. Impairment is not believed to be a factor.

A 69-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Edmonton just after midnight Thursday, police said.

The woman was hit at a crosswalk near 50 Street and 23 Avenue while crossing against the light. She was struck by a 2026 Hyundai Kona heading west on the avenue. EMS responded but declared her dead at the scene.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, and three passengers were not injured and remained at the scene. Police do not believe impairment was a factor in the collision.

Investigators are asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage from the area at the time to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567.
