Edmonton police are appealing for witnesses after an 81-year-old man struck in a car crash on June 24 died Saturday from his injuries, weeks after the collision.
The crash occurred just before 6 p.m. on June 24 at 97 Street north of the Yellowhead, when the man's northbound Kia Seltos attempted a left turn onto 132 Avenue. A southbound Kia Optima driven by a 22-year-old man struck the victim's vehicle. The older man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but initially remained in stable condition.
The driver of the Optima and his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released. Investigators determined impairment did not play a role in the collision.
The major collision investigations section asked anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the police non-emergency line. There have been 10 fatal collisions in Edmonton in 2026.
