Strathcona County is welcoming October with a packed weekend of fall events across museums, community venues, and growing spaces.

The Strathcona County Museum and Archives kicks off Spooky Strathma on Friday, October 2 with a Paint & Sip night featuring local artist Andrea Krahn. Open to both painting pros and newcomers, Krahn will guide participants in creating their own Spooky Strathma-themed artwork. The event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person and include all supplies plus one drink. Advance purchase is required at strathma.ca/event-details/sip-paint-night.

On Saturday, October 3, Spooky Strathma officially opens with a medieval village theme drawing from Sherwood Park's 1960s Medieval Days celebrations. Visitors will step into a reconstructed medieval setting while exploring a special exhibit featuring archival images, newspaper articles, and memories from original festival participants. From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Strathma Saturdays welcomes all ages for free drop-in activities.

Saturday evening, Strathcona County Service Clubs will host Monte Carlo Night at The Agora from 7 p.m. to midnight, raising funds for the Strathcona Food Bank and Sherwood Care. The evening features a live jazz band, live and silent auctions, a cash bar, and snacks. A semi-formal or formal dress code applies. Also Saturday morning, the Ardrossan Recreation and Agricultural Society Community Growing Patch invites adults and children to learn garlic planting with permaculture expert Joan Ramler. The hands-on program runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the ARAS Community Growing Patch (22177 Wye Road, at the southeast corner of RR222 and Wye Road).
