More than 106,000 Albertans applied for the province's $100 affordability rebate in just over 24 hours after it launched Wednesday, though technological problems left some struggling to complete their applications.

Higher-than-expected traffic initially caused sign-in issues on the government website, which the province fixed Thursday. Some users also reported problems with the Interac verification process used to confirm banking information—particularly those whose banks, including ATB, weren't listed as options during verification.

The province says most applicants can complete the process in under two minutes. For those whose bank doesn't participate in Interac verification, an alternative Document Verification option is available. Applications remain open until September 30, 2026.

Alberta residents with household incomes of $225,000 or less are eligible for the rebate. Nearly 3.4 million adults qualify. The province says the money will land in bank accounts within two weeks of application. For help navigating the portal, residents can call 1-844-401-4014 or visit a public library or Alberta Supports Centre.
