Nearly 3.4 million Albertans will become eligible to apply for a $100 energy rebate beginning July 1, with the province returning tax dollars collected during recent months of elevated gas prices.
The Alberta Energy Rebate will provide households with relief on fuel and other costs, delivering what the province says is more than 50 per cent in additional savings compared to what the fuel tax relief program was projected to provide over the next three months.
Alberta residents who are 18 or older, have filed a 2025 tax return, and have a household income of $225,000 or less are eligible to apply through a secure online portal. A household is defined as a single individual or two individuals who are married or in a common-law relationship.
The application portal opens on July 1 and closes on September 30, 2026. Applicants should receive their rebate within 14 days of submitting an application. The rebate is not taxable and does not need to be reported to the Canada Revenue Agency. Receiving the payment will not affect eligibility or benefit amounts under AISH, ADAP, Income Support, Alberta Seniors Benefit, or federal seniors' programs.
The province indicated that should oil prices remain elevated over future quarters, it will explore additional relief options for Alberta families.
