Alberta residents will soon get $100 in their pockets. Starting July 1, nearly 3.4 million Albertans can apply for the new Alberta Energy Rebate.

To qualify, applicants must be 18 or older, have filed a 2025 tax return, and have a household income of $225,000 or less. A household is defined as a single individual or two people who are married or in a common-law relationship.

The rebate is not taxable and doesn't need to be reported to the Canada Revenue Agency. Receiving it won't affect eligibility or benefit amounts under programs like AISH, ADAP, Income Support, Alberta Seniors Benefit, or federal seniors' programs.

Premier Danielle Smith announced the rebate Wednesday afternoon, framing it as returning tax dollars collected during months of elevated gas prices back to Albertans to help with fuel and household costs.

The province says the rebate delivers families more than 50 per cent in additional savings, on average, compared to what the fuel tax relief program was projected to provide over the next three months. The average Albertan uses about 2,000 litres of fuel per year, representing roughly $65 in quarterly fuel tax relief.

The application portal opens July 1, 2026, and closes September 30, 2026. Eligible residents can apply through a secure online portal.
