Edmonton police believe a former youth volleyball coach who pleaded guilty this month to possessing child sexual abuse material may have targeted other children.
Steven Cabral, 33, pleaded guilty on June 15 to charges including accessing, transmitting, and possessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material. He was arrested in May 2025 and released after his guilty plea with conditions barring contact with anyone 16 or younger. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for October.
Cabral coached and refereed youth volleyball teams in Edmonton with players between ages 12 and 17. Following his release, Edmonton Police Service investigators uncovered new information suggesting additional victims may exist.
"We know that conversations with children are hard for family and friends to have when these matters arise, but we want to ensure that we are able to provide support and a safe environment for anyone who may have information to come forward and speak with police," said Sgt. Maciej Rocki of EPS' Northwest Patrol.
Anyone who believes they were victimized by Cabral or witnessed him breach his court conditions can contact EPS at 780-423-4567. Anonymous tips are accepted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
