A 19-year-old Edmonton man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that killed Alexander Edward Colin Reid, 38, on Saturday morning.

Police responded at roughly 6:30 a.m. to a weapons complaint near 106 Avenue and 113 Street and found Reid injured with a gunshot wound. EMS transported him to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner's Office completed an autopsy Monday and determined that Reid died of gunshot wounds and his death is a homicide.

On Tuesday, police arrested and charged Hayden Halcrow, 19. He faces a charge of second-degree murder, as well as other firearms-related charges. He is also wanted on a warrant for attempted murder stemming from a previous shooting incident in May.

Detective Michael Walkom with the EPS Homicide Section said in a release: "We're aware there was an incident just prior to Mr. Reid's death during which a firearm was handled recklessly in a crowd of people. If anyone witnessed or has video footage of this behaviour, we are asking them to please contact us as soon as possible."

Investigators are looking for any footage captured between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. on Saturday morning in the area of 111 Street to 115 Street, from 103 Avenue to 107 Avenue, that may have captured a dark-coloured SUV fleeing the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
