LRT builder fined $120K after worker struck by equipment
Marigold Infrastructure Partners pleads guilty in 2023 workplace injury case during Edmonton Valley West Line construction.
The company building Edmonton's LRT extension was ordered to pay $120,000 after pleading guilty to failing to ensure equipment safety.
Edmonton Court of Justice handed down the penalty against Marigold Infrastructure Partners on Tuesday. A worker in his 40s was seriously injured in June 2023 while the crew was completing post-tensioning work on a segment of the Edmonton Valley West Line when equipment struck him.
The guilty plea resolved one charge of violating the province's Occupational Safety and Health Code. Crown prosecutors withdrew 13 other counts and related OHS charges against connected companies as part of the resolution.
The company and Crown have up to 30 days to appeal the court's decision.
For Edmonton residents, the case underscores ongoing safety scrutiny on one of the city's largest infrastructure projects as construction continues across multiple LRT corridors.
