The Oilers may have a shot at Claude Giroux, but it's a long one. The unrestricted free agent hasn't committed to any team, and his decision — along with Philadelphia's ability to pursue him — depends entirely on whether the Ducks match the Flyers' $18 million per year offer sheet for forward Leo Carlsson.

Giroux, a former Flyer, is reportedly interested in signing back in Philadelphia or with his current team in Ottawa. The Flyers have $30 million in cap space but still need to sign RFAs Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale. Anaheim has seven days to decide whether to match the offer.

Edmonton's chances hinge on whether Giroux prioritizes a Stanley Cup run. The Oil have a better shot at winning next year than either Ottawa or Philadelphia, but the former career-Eastern-Conference player has shown no public interest in heading west. Sources close to the Oilers suggested his decision remains genuinely undecided, though insiders have called Edmonton a long shot.

Meanwhile, Stan Bowman has already signed depth defencemen Spencer Stastny and Shakir Mukhamadullin this weekend. Reports indicate the Oilers may also pursue wingers like Vladimir Tarasenko and Rickard Rakell, with only restricted free agent Colton Dach left unsigned on the roster.
