Victoire to celebrate historic Walter Cup win downtown Saturday
Free public event at Quartier des Spectacles starting at 11 a.m. Features players, coaches, and captain Marie-Philip Poulin.
The Walter Cup champion Montreal Victoire will celebrate their first-ever PWHL title with a free public event Saturday in downtown Montreal.
Players and coaches are scheduled to appear on stage at the Quartier des Spectacles starting at 11 a.m., with festivities along Sainte-Catherine Street between Bleury and Clark streets running until 1 p.m. No tickets or reservations are needed.
The celebration comes days after the Victoire captured the Walter Cup by defeating the Ottawa Charge 3-1 in the best-of-five final series Wednesday night. The team has been celebrating all week — captain Marie-Philip Poulin and several teammates made a surprise appearance at Verdun Auditorium Thursday, arriving with the Walter Cup to greet cheering fans.
The festivities will continue into next week. Team members are scheduled to sign Montreal's official guestbook at City Hall Tuesday to commemorate the championship, followed by end-of-season media availability Wednesday. The timing arrives amid a busy weekend for the city — the celebration will share downtown space with the Go Bike Montreal Festival events and major road closures.
