Montréal Victoire captain Marie-Philip Poulin received an honorary doctorate from Bishop's University on Saturday, fresh off the team's victory parade. The recognition marks another milestone for a player who has defined an era of professional women's hockey — a five-time Olympian and three-time Olympic gold medalist.

Poulin led the Victoire to a 3-1 series victory over the Ottawa Charge last month to capture the Walter Cup in the Professional Women's Hockey League's inaugural season. In 2024, she also received the Chevalière of the Ordre national du Québec from the Quebec government.

"Hockey has given me opportunities I never could have imagined, but the most meaningful part of the journey has always been the people I've shared it with," Poulin said in a statement. The university's principal, Sébastien Lebel-Grenier, noted that Poulin embodies values aligned with Bishop's experience: excellence, leadership, humility, and commitment to community.

For a city that fought for professional women's hockey for years, Poulin's trophy case and honors feel overdue.
