Montreal police's arson squad is investigating a suspected arson fire at Nöam, a kosher restaurant in Côte-des-Neiges, after a blaze broke out early Saturday morning and caused significant damage to the building and a neighboring business.
Emergency services received a 911 call around 3:15 a.m. reporting flames near the intersection of Décarie Boulevard and Plamondon Avenue. Firefighters brought the fire under control after several hours of work. According to SPVM spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron, someone was reportedly seen leaving the premises shortly after the fire began, prompting authorities to transfer the investigation to the arson squad.
Investigators were expected to examine the scene and review surveillance footage to identify the person involved. Police said they will also speak with restaurant owners about any possible threats they may have received.
The investigation comes against a backdrop of other fire incidents in the region. In June, a suspected arson damaged a Westmount synagogue, and a Laval barbershop was damaged in another suspected arson case that resulted in an arrest. Whether those cases are connected to this fire remains unclear.
