Canada Post will end home mail delivery for roughly 139,000 addresses across six Quebec cities, including Laval and Longueuil, by 2027.

The Crown corporation announced the conversions Friday, June 12, targeting 37 communities nationwide as part of a five-year modernization plan. Addresses across Quebec City, Trois-Rivières, Saint-Hubert, and L'Ancienne-Lorette are also affected. These conversions follow an earlier wave announced in April that included La Prairie and Candiac.

Canada Post cited record losses in 2025 and early 2026 as the driver. The shift to community mailboxes—locked compartments serving multiple households—is central to returning the service to financial sustainability without becoming a recurring taxpayer burden.

More than 80% of parcels fit into standard compartments, Canada Post says. Larger items or those requiring signatures will be delivered to the door or held for pickup at a post office. The conversion process typically takes several months, and residents will receive advance notice.

Nearly three-quarters of Canadian addresses already receive mail through centralized delivery. For residents with mobility challenges, Canada Post's Delivery Accommodation Program offers free support, including sliding trays, Braille features, or continued home delivery in some cases. More information is available at canadapost.ca/ourtransformation or by calling 1-844-454-3009.

If you still get mail at your door, your building could be next.
