Man critical after collision on Route 116 near Longueuil

A 38-year-old struck a low wall on Route 116 East near Highway 30 Sunday morning, leaving only one lane open on the highway.

A 38-year-old man is in critical condition after a single-vehicle collision on Route 116 East near Highway 30 in the Saint-Hubert area of Longueuil Sunday morning around 6:15 a.m.

The vehicle hit a low wall on the highway. Mélanie Mercille, spokesperson for Longueuil police (SPAL), said the man's condition is critical. "His condition is considered critical, and we fear for his life. So far, there appears to be no criminal element involved," she said.

SPAL investigators are working with accident reconstructionists from Sûreté du Québec on the investigation. Only one lane remains open on Route 116 East toward Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville as a result of the collision.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, Longueuil police posted on Facebook that the driver was out of danger, though the source material does not clarify the exact timing of the condition change.
