A new non-profit student residence opened downtown earlier this month, already housing 269 students across 168 units at the corner of Ontario and Saint-Laurent Streets.
UTILE Saint-Laurent was designed specifically for student housing in a central location close to public transit and other services. The apartments come fully equipped with appliances, and rent covers internet, electricity, and air conditioning. The building also features shared facilities including a community room and laundry.
Laurent Lévesque, CEO and cofounder of UTILE, said the project is "really important" for the neighborhood. "It's real close to Quartier Latin, Quartier des spectacles, an area which really stands to benefit from an enhanced presence of the student population."
The project was completed on schedule and within budget, developed in partnership with the Student Society of McGill University, the City of Montreal, the federal government's Affordable Housing Fund, and Fondation Mobilier de Solidarité of the FTQ. UTILE now houses more than 1,200 student tenants across Quebec.
