A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital after an early-morning assault in downtown Montreal on Sunday near the intersection of Sherbrooke Street and Saint-Laurent Boulevard. Officers responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. and arrested a 30-year-old man who had sustained a facial injury. Police say an altercation between the two men escalated for reasons that remain under investigation. According to preliminary information, the suspect left the scene after being injured but later returned carrying a blunt object and allegedly assaulted the younger man. The victim was transported to hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening. The investigation is ongoing.
