Toddler hospitalized after being struck by car in Saint-Laurent

A 20-month-old boy was struck by a car while crossing the street with his mother and aunt on Thursday, August 6, around 7:45 p.m. on Montpellier Boulevard near Muir Street in the Saint-Laurent borough. The toddler sustained serious injuries to his upper body but remained conscious and breathing when police arrived.
He was transported to hospital, where doctors confirmed his life is not in danger. The boy's mother and aunt were crossing at a marked crosswalk when the 17-year-old driver struck the stroller, according to Montreal police (SPVM) spokesperson Johany Charland.
The driver was treated by paramedics for nervous shock but suffered no physical injuries. An investigation is underway to determine the causes and circumstances of the collision, locate witnesses, and identify surveillance cameras that may have recorded the incident.
Whether the driver will face charges or be ticketed following the investigation has not been determined.
