A group of teenagers injured a gas station employee during a confrontation in downtown Montreal early Friday, August 7, around 12:30 a.m. Several dozen teens, aged 14 to 19, gathered in a parking lot near the intersection of Papineau Street and De Maisonneuve Boulevard in the Ville-Marie borough, close to the Jacques-Cartier Bridge.
Police believe the teenagers began throwing objects at a gas station convenience store. When employees went outside to confront them, the situation escalated into a brawl. Two employees were struck by objects but were not injured. A third employee, a 21-year-old man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Montreal police (SPVM) officers dispersed the crowd quickly upon arrival. "Some employees reportedly went outside and a confrontation then escalated," according to SPVM spokesperson Florence Stafford.
No arrests have been made as of Friday. The investigation is ongoing. Police are seeking witnesses and information about the incident.
