Gatineau man dies after June assault, marking city's third homicide

Jean Patenaude, 45, succumbed to injuries from a weapon assault on Broadway Street West on June 17. A 26-year-old has been charged.

A 45-year-old Gatineau man has died from injuries sustained in an assault earlier this month, marking the city's third homicide of 2026.

Jean Patenaude of Gatineau was assaulted with a weapon on Broadway Street West on June 17. Gatineau police announced June 23, that Patenaude had succumbed to his injuries.

Kevin-Jordy Rotangar, 26, of Gatineau, was arrested and was facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault at the time of his arrest. Police said they were collaborating with the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions on charges to be laid in the case.
