Montreal's Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine Tunnel will be completely closed in both directions Friday night into Saturday as workers repair the tunnel's electrical and communication systems. The closure will ripple across multiple routes, making this one of the summer's most disruptive transit events.

Highway 25 toward the South Shore will close between Exit 5 and Souligny Avenue from Thursday night into Friday, with the tunnel remaining accessible from the Souligny entrance. The following night, Highway 25 southbound closes between Exit 5 and Île Charron. Northbound, the two right lanes close between Notre-Dame Street and Exit 5 from Thursday to Friday morning, with complete closures of the Notre-Dame entrance and Exit 5.

From Friday night to Saturday morning, Highway 25 closes between Exit 90 and Yves-Prévost Boulevard. Highway 20 eastbound faces a complete closure between Exit 95 and De Montarville Boulevard from Friday night through Monday morning, with De Montarville Boulevard southbound also closing beneath Highway 20 during that period.

This is the third major La Fontaine closure this month. As HighOnCity reported in early August, the city has scheduled four weekends of repairs through late August. Drivers crossing to the South Shore should expect severe delays or use alternate routes like the Champlain Bridge or île Perrot crossings. Allow extra commute time if your Friday or weekend plans depend on crossing the river.
