About 35,000 runners will compete in the 34th Marathon Beneva de Montréal this weekend, and drivers should prepare for significant street closures across the city.

Friday, October 9, begins with the Marathon Expo at the Palais des congrès and the Mile ON race in Maisonneuve Park at 6 p.m.—no traffic disruptions expected that day. Saturday, October 10, sees closures in the Maisonneuve Park area between 6:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. for the 5K Sports Experts race, Canadian Elite and Masters 5K Championships, 10K race, and 1K race for young runners. Affected Saturday streets include Sherbrooke Street East, Rosemont Boulevard, Viau Boulevard, and avenues 31st, 35th, 41st, 43rd, and 44th, plus Beaubien, de Bellechasse, and Saint-Zotique streets. MUHC says Saturday races won't affect access to any of its sites.

Sunday, October 11, is the main event: street closures from 6:30 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. for the half-marathon and full marathon. The route starts at Espace 67, crosses the Concorde Bridge, runs along Notre-Dame Street, and heads toward Lafontaine Park, Saint-Joseph Boulevard, and Saint-Laurent Boulevard, passing through the Plateau, Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, and Ahuntsic-Cartierville. Sunday closures affect Notre-Dame, de la Commune, Berri, Rachel East, Saint-Denis, Saint-Laurent, Saint-Hubert, Beaubien East, Saint-Joseph East, and Gouin Boulevard.

Car crossings remain possible via Route 136, Sherbrooke Street, Des Carrières Street, Van Horne Viaduct, Highway 40, and Viau Bridge. The STM will increase metro service based on expected ridership. The public is asked to use transit and active transportation Sunday.
