FIFA is hosting a free World Cup watch party at Lansdowne Park on Wednesday, June 24, as Canada faces Switzerland in a group-stage match that will determine home-field advantage in the knockout round.
Gates open at 2 p.m., with the Canada vs. Switzerland match kicking off at 3 p.m. The event will also broadcast the Scotland vs. Brazil match starting at 6 p.m. Activities featuring the Russell Raiders, OFC Surad, and Ottawa Gloucester will run throughout the day alongside music, food, and what organizers call "shared moments of national pride."
Canada and Switzerland are tied atop Group B with four points each, but Canada leads on goal difference (plus-six versus plus-three). A win or draw secures Canada first place and guarantees a round of 32 match in Vancouver at BC Place — potentially moving deeper knockout matches to Canadian soil. If Switzerland wins and Canada advances as second or third in the group, all knockout games will be played in the United States, costing Canada home advantage.
