Garage fire in Centretown brought under control in 30 minutes Tuesday
Firefighters responded to flames in an attached garage at a two-storey residential building on Lisgar Street early Tuesday morning. Three tenants and two dogs safely evacuated.

Firefighters brought a garage fire under control in about 30 minutes Tuesday morning at a two-storey residential building in the 500 block of Lisgar Street.
The call came in at 1:33 a.m. Crews arrived four minutes later to find black smoke pouring from an attached garage. Two vehicles were inside the burning structure. The residents told officials everyone was out of the building.
Fighters cut down a fence to reach the back of the garage, where the fire was most intense. They cut the exterior siding and plywood to expose the flames, then doused them with water. Another team worked through the building to confirm no one was inside.
Crew members prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the structure. After air quality returned to normal, the three tenants and two dogs were able to return home.
A fire investigator was dispatched to determine how the blaze started.
