A two-storey home in Orléans erupted in flames Thursday, July 9, prompting firefighters to call a second alarm after realizing how rapidly the fire was threatening neighbouring properties.

Fire crews were called to the 6000 block of Castle Pines Way in Chapel Hill South around 4:46 p.m. Multiple 911 callers reported flames shooting through the roof. When firefighters arrived, they found not only heavy fire but also intense heat melting the siding of a house next door — a sight that immediately triggered a request for additional resources.

Searching teams found no one inside the burning home. Outside crews doused the flames while the interior was cleared. One firefighter sustained a minor injury during operations.

By 6:42 p.m., the fire was under control. An Ottawa investigator was dispatched to determine the cause.
