A 23-year-old motorcyclist is facing a criminal charge after provincial police caught him going 193 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 417 on July 6.
The rider, who held an M2 licence, had his driving privileges suspended for 30 days and his motorcycle impounded for two weeks. He is set to appear in Ottawa court at a later date.
The dangerous operation charge stems from a September 2025 agreement between the Crown and police: any speeds over 180 km/h on local roads now trigger that charge. It's one tactic police are using to curb high-profile speeding incidents in the nation's capital.
