Lalande Conservation Park in Ottawa's east end is closed effective June 9 until further notice due to coyote activity in the area.
The city said it is working to ensure safety for wildlife, residents, and pets in the area while coordinating closely with provincial authorities, wildlife experts, and partner agencies. A relocation effort was prioritized but greater safety concerns have led the city to reassess its approach.
As part of its interim response, trail cameras will be installed to support operations and provide situational awareness. By-law and Regulatory Services staff are on site advising residents to avoid the park and surrounding greenspace during the closure.
City staff will continue coordinating directly with provincial authorities and wildlife experts. The public is reminded not to shoot, trap, or approach coyotes.
