Ottawa Police Service conducted a targeted traffic-enforcement operation on Thursday, Aug. 28 and Friday, Aug. 29, laying 92 charges across the city. Officers from the Road Safety Unit, District Traffic and Impounded Vehicle units monitored vehicle gatherings and organized automotive events during evening hours, focusing on high-risk driving.
Friday's enforcement resulted in 21 charges — 18 Provincial Offence Notices and 3 Part III court summonses. Saturday saw a significant spike, with 64 Provincial Offence Notices and 7 Part III court charges.
Three drivers faced stunt-driving charges over the two days. A 32-year-old was caught traveling 143 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 417 near Parkdale Avenue Friday; a 28-year-old reached 102 km/h in a 60 km/h zone at Fisher Avenue and Dynes Road Saturday; and another driver hit 133 km/h in a 60 km/h zone at Baseline Road and Clyde Avenue Saturday while fleeing a minor collision. All three had their licences suspended 30 days and vehicles impounded 14 days.
A 40-year-old near Prince of Wales Drive and Normandy Crescent was charged with driving while under suspension and failing to stop at a red light after an automated licence plate recognition alert flagged the registered owner. A 19-year-old stopped near Strandherd Drive and Greenbank Road for an improper muffler was issued a court summons — the driver had been charged with the same offence within the previous week.
