Ottawa continues its recovery from the Canada Day storm that caused widespread basement flooding across the city. More than 4,500 households reported flooding damage following the massive downpour, and the city has now made "significant progress" in cleanup efforts, according to officials.

Starting this week, the city has begun collecting storm debris waste and temporarily lifted garbage collection limits for affected residents in the west end, removing the usual weekly restrictions on the number of carts residents can set out. The move reflects the volume of damaged materials households need to dispose of as they repair water damage and clear debris.

The city did not provide a specific end date for the waived limits, suggesting the measure will remain in place as long as recovery efforts require.
