Ottawa police are investigating two stabbings that occurred on the same day Tuesday, August 4, leaving one victim in critical condition.

A male victim was taken to hospital in critical condition after a stabbing in the downtown Rideau area near the intersection of Daly Avenue and Nicholas Street on Tuesday evening. Police said no one was in custody Tuesday night, but they reported there was no known threat to public safety.

Earlier that morning, a man was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after a stabbing in Centretown. First responders were called to the scene near McLeod and Bank streets at 9:45 a.m., according to Ottawa Paramedic Service.

Police have not disclosed whether they believe the two incidents are connected. As of Wednesday evening, the investigation was ongoing.
