Fort McMurray police arrested two men in connection with a major drug trafficking investigation that yielded nearly $100,000 worth of narcotics and three firearms.
On June 11, police and Wood Buffalo RCMP searched two homes, a storage facility, and three vehicles. Officers seized 915 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of methamphetamine, varying smaller amounts of other drugs, and $4,165 in cash. All three firearms came with ammunition; one was prohibited.
Matthew Berkshire, 34, and Dylan Hurley, 36, are facing multiple serious charges including possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Hurley faces additional firearms-related offences. Police said they had been investigating both men for months following earlier reports from criminal intelligence.
Berkshire was released from custody and is set to appear in court on July 14. Hurley was on a release order at the time of his arrest and was set to appear on June 30.
ALERT Staff Sergeant Mark Wait said "community safety is paramount" and that the bust reflects a shared commitment between Wood Buffalo RCMP and ALERT to remove "drugs and guns off the street."
