Ontario has begun construction on a new GO station in the Town of Grimsby, located between Hamilton and St. Catharines, as part of efforts to expand transit access and reduce traffic congestion across the Greater Golden Horseshoe.

Crew broke ground on Tuesday on the station, which will eventually offer train service, 220 parking spaces, bus connections for GO Bus and Niagara Region Transit services, shelters, fare kiosks, digital information screens, bike racks, and pedestrian walkways.

The project is one of several meant to extend GO Transit service beyond the Greater Toronto Area. The province is investing $14 billion across the network to increase service frequency and improve regional rail connections. The Grimsby station will open in stages as construction progresses.

The new station follows the opening of Confederation GO Station in Hamilton in October 2025 and is part of Ontario's broader plan to connect Toronto, Hamilton, and the Niagara region. The province says it is using a standardized station design to reduce construction costs and speed up timelines.

Once complete, Grimsby will become the next stop on the Lakeshore West corridor, offering commuters and regional travellers a new transit option along the expanded line.
