AC/DC band members surprised Toronto fans at a pop-up event at Steam Whistle Brewing on September 16, stepping in after severe storm damage forced the cancellation of their Rogers Stadium concert scheduled for the same day.
Angus Young, Stevie Young, Matt Laug, and Chris Chaney arrived late to the pop-up but signed merchandise at a table beside the purchase area. Lead singer Brian Johnson was not present. Angus Young was filmed signing a baby's outfit, a moment that captured the spirit of the gathering.
Fan Kasia, posting in the AC/DC Family Facebook group, called the appearance "a shock of our lives." She wrote: "For all the people who came across the world to find that the concert was cancelled, ACDC coming out to sign autographs was the best possible gift to all of them." At the pop-up, Kasia met fans from Ireland, Australia, France, Germany, and England. One attendee had seen AC/DC perform 300 times.
The pop-up, which ran September 15-16, featured AC/DC memorabilia including the Hells Bells bell — one of 21 cannons used during the 1991 Monsters of Rock performance at Donington Park in England — alongside a giant neon AC/DC lightning-bolt logo and Angus Young's iconic schoolboy stage outfit. A specialty cocktail called Thunder Struck, made with Dillon's vodka, blue Curaçao, Sprite, lemonade, and lime juice, was served alongside merchandise including premium apparel, accessories, posters, and limited-edition items.
Some band members attended the world premiere of the Neil Peart documentary No One's Disciple after the pop-up. The PWR/UP World Tour, named after AC/DC's 2020 album that reached No. 1 in 21 countries, has three scheduled shows remaining: Winnipeg on September 20, East Rutherford, New Jersey, on September 25, and Philadelphia on September 29.
