Subway Canada has officially settled the great debate: a hot dog is a sandwich. The chain launched the SubDog starting June 29 at participating locations nationwide, and a visit to the brand's Toronto test kitchen confirmed it's absolutely delicious.
The SubDog pairs a jumbo all-beef Schneiders hot dog—nearly half a pound of beef—with fresh-baked bread prepared daily in-restaurant and all the toppings and sauce you can dream of. Order it exactly like a Subway sandwich: pick your bread, choose your toppings, drizzle your sauce, and even toast it if you like. Chef John Botelho, Subway Canada's Culinary Manager, explained the concept emerged from a simple question: "How do we make hot dogs the Subway way?"
The answer: using the same quality ingredients found at every Subway Canada restaurant. In a Japanese-inspired version created at the test kitchen, Italian Herb & Cheese bread was toasted with cheddar cheese, topped with the hot dog, crispy cucumbers, shredded lettuce, fresh sliced red onions, tomato slices, and Sweet Onion Teriyaki Sauce, finished with crunchy onions.
The combination delivers classic Subway ingredients with a backyard-classic twist. The SubDog is available at participating locations for a limited time, making it worth trying sooner rather than later.
