Animl steakhouse is responding to Bo Bichette's controversial move to the Mets with a tongue-in-cheek tribute: the Bo Dog, a $126 hot dog available throughout the Mets' visit to Toronto.
The ultra-luxury frank features a Wagyu hot dog topped with truffle corn relish, butter-poached Atlantic lobster, and seared Quebec foie gras — a nod to the three-year, $126-million contract Bichette signed with New York after snubbing the Jays. The Mets play Toronto from June 29 to July 1, and Animl will serve the Bo Dog through the end of baseball season.
The steakhouse's creative campaign started last August when Bichette, then Toronto's shortstop, named Animl his favourite restaurant in the city during a CBC interview. In January, as Bichette's free agency approached, Animl posted an Instagram open letter offering him free steaks for life if he re-signed with the Jays. "We'll handle dinner, you bring home the hardware," it read. The post went viral — even sparking a cheeky counteroffer from PETA for a lifetime supply of Viagra.
While Bichette ultimately chose New York, Animl isn't dwelling. All proceeds from every Bo Dog sold will be donated to Motionball, a non-profit organization supporting the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.
