As TIFF kicks off September 10th, several Toronto restaurants and bars are rolling out film-inspired cocktails and special menus to draw moviegoers between screenings.
Bar Romy in the Entertainment District is serving three TIFF cocktails. The standout is the "Popcorn Colada" — a piña colada-style drink with lemon and dark chocolate-covered popcorn, served in a plastic popcorn bucket. The bar also offers the "Opening Night" (tequila, amaretto, strawberry juice, lemon, black salt) and the "Red Carpet" (vodka, galliano vanilla, cherry purée, lemon, grapefruit, cava, foamer, and cotton candy). Located at 295 Adelaide Street West, it's INK Entertainment's Italian dining spot in the neighbourhood.
Vinny Restaurant & Vinyl Bar on King Street West is leaning into movie theatre nostalgia with "Life's a Peach" — a whisky, peach liqueur, peach syrup, Aperol, lemon, egg white and peach ring cocktail inspired by Maynards fuzzy peaches candy. The drink captures the fuzzy-peach flavour profile familiar to anyone who's raided a movie concession stand.
Animl Steakhouse & Cocktail Den on Wellington Street West is offering the "Midnight Martini," made with peanut butter vodka, cacao, coffee liqueur and Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs cereal milk. The drink nods both to TIFF's midnight screenings and the classic movie snack.
For a full TIFF dining experience, Primadonna — a vibrant Italian-American restaurant and rooftop lounge at 600 King Street West, Fourth Floor — is offering a featured cocktail called "La Première" (tequila, Aperol, Prosecco, lime, lychee juice) alongside a special three-course menu titled "The Main Character." The first course offers a choice between Frutti di Mare (mixed seafood salad with cioppino base and crostini) or Beef Carpaccio (truffle crema, pickled shallots, shaved parmesan, arugula). The second course includes Spicy Shrimp Vodka Rigatoni (Calabrese chilli, rosé), Chicken Cotoletta (arugula, pickled onion, lemon, sage brown butter), or Eggplant Parmigiana. Dessert choices are Lemon Berry Pavlova (meringue, lemon curd, mixed berries) or Aperol Spritz Cake (almond orange cake).
All TIFF-inspired offerings are available only during the festival run, September 10 through September 20th.
