In the summer of 2025, Thornhill's banh mi lovers only had one name on their lips: Banh Mi Nana. Created by the family team behind other Thornhill and Markham Vietnamese staples Electric Piggy and Nam 2, the banh mi shop was an immediate smash hit, selling through 2,000 sandwiches in its first day and regularly selling out before closing time.

The key to that success, according to owner Michelle, came down to attention to detail. At Banh Mi Nana, every loaf of bread, each deli meat, the pork floss and even the butter is made by hand. Now, after that smashing success, the Nam family is expanding into Toronto with Nam 6ix, opening in Scarborough on July 22 with a grand opening set for July 24.

Michelle says the new Toronto location will be the Nam family's largest yet and will feature not just the Banh Mi Nana bread, but a menu of Vietnamese dishes less commonly found in the GTA — sticky rice dumplings called banh it ram, savoury shrimp-filled pancakes called banh khot, and banh beo, steamed rice cakes. The restaurant will also focus on homestyle Vietnamese cooking like canh chua, a sour soup, and ca kho, clay-pot-braised fish, alongside stir-fried snails, grilled oysters and crab. Nam 6ix will be located at 2111 Sheppard Avenue East.
