York Regional Police have charged three Toronto men following an investigation into an alleged kidnapping conspiracy in Markham.

The investigation began May 21 when officers responded to a suspicious incident near Masseyfield Gate and Steeles Avenue. A suspect had secretly attached a tracking device to a parked vehicle. Once officers discovered the device and interviewed the vehicle's owner, the scope of the case became clear: someone was planning to track and kidnap the person associated with that vehicle.

Police say the three accused men are facing charges related to the alleged plot. Details about what charges they face and the extent of their involvement remain limited, but the case underscores the real threat posed by location-tracking devices when used with criminal intent.

For residents in York Region and Toronto: if you notice an unfamiliar device attached to your car or suspect you're being tracked, report it to police immediately. Don't confront anyone yourself.
