A worker has died on the job in Markham on Thursday, August 13, Ontario's Ministry of Labour confirmed.
A ministry inspector went to the scene to investigate. York Regional Police responded to reports of an injured person in the area of McCowan Road and Highway 7 on Thursday afternoon. Police have not confirmed whether the incident was connected to a large power outage affecting the intersection at the time.
According to an outage map from Alectra Utilities, more than 4,800 customers were without power in Markham at the peak of an outage Thursday that began at about 11:55 a.m. The utility reported the cause of the outage was a vehicle collision with equipment. Power was restored late Thursday afternoon.
The Ministry of Labour did not disclose additional details about the worker's identity or occupation.
