Two Montreal men have been sentenced for their involvement in the shooting death of 18-year-old Issaïh Jünger outside an Airbnb on Lansdowne Avenue near Bloor Street W. on February 6, 2024.

Ontario Superior Court Justice Jane Kelly sentenced Dan Hakizimana, 22, to four years and Hassan Farhat, 21, to five-and-a-half years. Both pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March.

The shooting followed a dispute over stolen property. According to court documents, Jünger had asked his girlfriend from Verdun, Quebec, to steal a diamond pendant, Rolex watch, laser sight and gun from a youth and give them to him. After they broke up, the girlfriend travelled from Montreal with the youth and three men to retrieve the items.

The five confronted Jünger outside the Airbnb, where he was shot twice. Hakizimana and Farhat were in the confrontation group but were not the shooters. Both knew someone in the group was carrying a firearm. A fourth man involved in the shooting remains at large.

Justice Kelly wrote that "a life lost cannot be measured by the length of a prison term" and noted that firearms remain "a scourge on our society."
