North York council considers temporary 'BTS Boulevard' co-naming for K-pop group's August shows

Toronto city council is considering a motion to temporarily co-name a stretch of Yonge Street in North York as "BTS Boulevard" ahead of the K-pop group's two sold-out concerts at Rogers Stadium August 22 and 23.
The motion, titled "Toronto Goes Dynamite! Welcoming BTS on BTS Boulevard," was introduced by Councillor Lily Cheng and seconded by Councillor James Pasternak. If approved, temporary honorary street signs would be installed along Yonge Street between North York Boulevard and Finch Avenue from around August 21 until September 23.
The proposal would not officially rename Yonge Street. Instead, "BTS Boulevard" would appear on single-blade honorary signs alongside the existing street name.
The move follows a precedent set two years ago when city council approved temporarily renaming the route from Rogers Centre to Nathan Phillips Square as "Taylor Swift Way" during the pop star's six-show Eras Tour stop in Toronto.
When NOW Toronto spoke to residents about the proposal, all expressed support. Several described it as a fun and harmless way to welcome BTS and their fans. One resident noted BTS's global fanbase extends far beyond South Korea. Another emphasized the group's cultural impact for Korea on the world stage.
Some residents supported the concept but questioned the timeline, suggesting a month-long display might be excessive. One fan acknowledged missing out on concert tickets but appreciated the city's recognition of the group.
