Zellers, the Canadian department store making a comeback, will open its first new location in Toronto this week as part of a Canada-wide expansion.

The store opens Thursday, June 18, at 80 Orfus Road, near Yorkdale Shopping Centre at Highway 401 and Dufferin Street. It's a 25,000-square-foot standalone location featuring the company's "Zellers 3.0" small-format concept.

Shoppers can browse apparel and accessories from brands including Adidas, NFL, NHL, Dickies, Von Dutch, and Juicy Couture. The Home & Lifestyle department will stock home décor from Maxwell & Williams and Casa Domani, plus linens from Rachel Roy, Tahari and Chaps.

A new Toy section includes plush toys, puzzles, and outdoor games. Summer items like water guns and pool toys will be available, along with party supplies and stationery. A Food, Snacks & Specialty Grocery section will carry flavoured popcorn, candies, international chips, and grab-and-go drinks, plus Italian grocery items from Gigi including pasta, sauces, olives and oils.

The Toronto location is one of two Ontario openings announced. Another store will open in July at Windsor's Tecumseh Mall. Zellers says additional locations will follow across Ontario and Canada as part of a phased expansion. The first new Zellers store opened at Londonderry Mall in Edmonton late last year.
