Phoenix Concert Theatre moving to Parkdale Hall on Queen West in 2027
Iconic venue relocates from Sherbourne Street to restored 1920s theatre. Capacity stays around 1,350 but move requires city approvals.

The Phoenix Concert Theatre will relocate from its longtime home on Sherbourne Street to Parkdale Hall at 1605 Queen St. W. in Parkdale, the venue announced Tuesday. The move is expected to happen sometime in 2027, pending city approvals and rezoning.
The Phoenix will retain its name and approximate 1,350-person capacity at the new location. Both venues intend to operate as usual until approvals are granted, with the Phoenix staying open at its current address until the move is complete.
Parkdale Hall occupies the former Parkdale Theatre, which opened in spring 1920. Cinema tycoons Jay and Jule Allen commissioned renowned architect C. Howard Crane—who also designed the Danforth Music Hall—to create the ornate venue with plaster ceilings, gilded accents, and crystal chandeliers. The theatre originally seated more than 1,500. It closed in summer 1970 and subsequently housed an Eaton's Bargain Centre and the Queen West Antique Centre before Parkdale Hall opened under Chan family ownership in 2020.
The current Parkdale Hall accommodates up to 750 people for weddings, corporate events, and shows. The new Phoenix configuration will span the full floor plate of the original venue, expanding to roughly 1,500 capacity. Alex Chan, president of Parkdale Hall, said: "There is something incredibly fitting about bringing The Phoenix to Parkdale Hall. This building was created for entertainment more than 100 years ago, and The Phoenix has spent more than three decades creating its own remarkable history in Toronto. Bringing those two stories together gives us an opportunity to respect what came before while creating something new for the city's west end."
The Phoenix announced its closure in 2024 after 30 years, as the Sherbourne Street site was slated for community housing development. Less than three months before a January 2025 closure date, owners negotiated an extension. A deal with developers allowed the venue to continue operating through 2026.
