The Toronto Sunday Market has run every Sunday at Parkdale Hall, 1605 Queen St. W., since 2020, offering vintage finds, handmade crafts and pastries from local vendors.

The market's organizer, Alex Chan, who also runs Parkdale Hall, says it will keep running there straight through 2027, the expected start date for the Phoenix Project.

The Phoenix Concert Theatre has applied to move into the building, a proposal that is before the city. Chan says a proposal is not approval, and that if it is approved construction would be a long way off. For now, she says, the only action being taken is to keep operations running as usual.

"The market has been running at Parkdale Hall since 2020, and for a lot of our vendors it's the one reliable date in their month," Chan said.

Chan said neither she nor anyone involved with Parkdale Hall opposes the venue moving in, but that the plan calls for a strategy for coexistence with the residents already there. "My intention is for the market to remain part of this building's future," she said. "Bringing a 1920 theatre back to life only matters if the community can still get through the door."

HighOnCity reported in September that the Phoenix Concert Theatre would move from Sherbourne Street to Parkdale Hall in 2027, pending city approvals.
