Government approves timber operations in protected deep snow caribou territory

British Columbia has approved logging in caribou habitat despite recommendations against it from its own ministry. The southern mountain caribou, also called deep snow caribou, depend on old-growth forest at high altitudes for lichen-based feeding. The species' habitat range lies mainly in eastern B.C. and is now threatened by approved timber operations.
