CBC's The Current hosts live soccer celebration June 12
CBC Radio hosts Matt Galloway brings live broadcast of The Current to Toronto with music, former Team Canada players, and superfans. Free tickets required.
CBC Radio's The Current is bringing a live broadcast celebration of soccer to Toronto on Friday, June 12, at the CBC Broadcasting Centre. Host Matt Galloway will lead the event, which doubles as both a radio broadcast and an in-person gathering for Canada's soccer community.
The lineup includes performances from two-time Polaris Prize winner Shad, plus appearances from former Team Canada members Diana Matheson and Craig Forrest. The event will also feature coaches working to build Canada's soccer program and superfans from across the Greater Toronto Area.
Doors open at 6:30 a.m. The pre-show starts at 7:15 a.m., with the live broadcast running from 7:37 to 9:00 a.m. at the Barbara Frum Atrium, 250 Front St. W. Attendees are encouraged to wear their soccer jerseys—local club or national team.
This is a free event, but tickets must be reserved in advance on a first-come, first-served basis. It's a rare chance to be part of a live CBC broadcast while connecting with Toronto's soccer community during the World Cup summer. The energy of live radio, combined with the sport's moment in the city, makes this worth the early morning wake-up.
