Cabbagetown's Five-Week World Festival Kicks Off Mid-June
A five-week pop-up series celebrating multicultural Toronto arrives with live music, markets, workshops, and street performances.
Cabbagetown is about to become even more of a destination. The neighbourhood's BIA is launching a five-week pop-up celebration called "Around The World," running June 11 through July 19, that transforms the historic neighbourhood into a living showcase of Toronto's multicultural character.
The series aligns with the city's FIFA World Cup hosting theme—"The World in a City"—and it's designed for locals and tourists alike who want to experience Cabbagetown's shops, restaurants, architecture, and communities representing cultures from around the globe. Think of it as a guided immersion into one of Toronto's most vibrant and walkable neighborhoods.
The five weeks are packed with free and ticketed events across indoor and outdoor venues. Here's what's on the calendar: a bike repair workshop at Cycle Solutions (June 11); an outdoor pop-up thrift market at Double Take with live music and face painting (June 13); a multicultural dance concert featuring Filipino Folk, Flamenco, and contemporary styles at The School of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre (June 13); indoor plant care sessions at Dixon Hall (June 19); Ethiopian and Eritrean coffee ceremonies at Shalom Ethiopian & Eritrean Restaurant (June 28 and July 12); a community art day hosted by OCAD founder Bonnie Devine at Stout Irish Pub (June 28); QE Trivia's comedy special at Super Bargain Bar (July 2); an Indigenous drum circle at Allan Gardens (July 11); and a grand finale street performance takeover with juggling, mime, caricatures, and drag on July 19.
Matthew Mohan, executive director of the Cabbagetown BIA, says the series reflects what makes the neighbourhood special: "Cabbagetown is a direct reflection of Toronto's diversity. Day or night, there's always something exciting happening here." Whether you're into cultural traditions, local commerce, live performance, or just soaking in neighbourhood energy, this five-week run gives you plenty of reasons to explore.
Day and night, there's something worth catching. Plan ahead or just wander in.
