This weekend, Toronto's most interesting buildings—from hidden heritage gems to cutting-edge contemporary architecture—throw open their doors for Doors Open, the annual celebration of the city's built environment.

More than 160 sites across Toronto will be accessible to the public free of charge both Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is a rare opportunity to see inside spaces normally off-limits to casual visitors: government buildings, corporate towers, historic landmarks, and innovative new structures that showcase Toronto's architectural DNA across centuries.

Beyond simple tours, Doors Open programming includes talks and neighbourhood-led walking tours that dig into the stories behind the buildings—why certain structures mattered, how they shaped the neighbourhoods around them, what challenges architects and planners faced. It's history and design education wrapped in an accessible, free festival format that draws tens of thousands of Torontonians.

One important note: transit will be impacted this weekend due to planned construction on the Lakeshore West and Barrie GO lines, and there's a subway closure affecting some routes. Plan your Doors Open route accordingly and allow extra time for travel. The disruption is unavoidable but shouldn't derail the experience—this is your chance to see Toronto's architectural story told from the inside.
