Four more arrested in North York hate-motivated firearm attacks on Jewish community
Police have arrested four additional suspects connected to two incidents targeting members of the Jewish community in April and May.
Four suspects have been arrested and two more are wanted in connection with two hate-motivated attacks targeting members of the Jewish community in North York. The first incident occurred on April 30 in the Bathurst Street and Lawrence Avenue West area, when a suspect in a vehicle discharged an imitation firearm at three visibly identifiable Jewish community members. One person suffered minor injuries. The second attack happened on May 7 around 10:49 p.m. outside Congregation Chasidei Bobov synagogue near Bathurst and Highway 401, when someone fired an imitation firearm at a small group gathering outside. Again, one person was struck and suffered minor injuries. An 18-year-old from Vaughan named Ruslan Novruzov was initially charged in May. The investigation led to four more arrests: Luka Chokheli, 20, Alishahin Isayev, 23, and a 16-year-old male, all of Toronto, and a 17-year-old female of Thornhill. All four have been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of possession of a weapon. The female youth and Isayev face an additional count of mischief. Chief Superintendent Katherine Stephenson said the incidents "were not random" and "appear to have been organized and planned with more than one individual involved in the coordination." Two additional youth suspects remain wanted; police cannot release photos of minors.
